Description

M5Stack Paper v1.1, also known as M5Paper v1.1, is an ESP32 E-Ink touchscreen development kit with a 4.7-inch 540 x 960 E-Ink display, 16-level grayscale, and GT911 capacitive touch. The M5-K049-B device is designed for low-refresh interfaces where reading comfort, touch control, and retained screen content matter more than animation.

The M5Stack Paper v1.1 integrates ESP32-D0WDQ6-V3, 16MB Flash, 8MB PSRAM, SHT30 temperature and humidity sensor, FM24C02 EEPROM, BM8563 RTC, TF-card slot, 1150mAh battery, magnetic back, and three HY2.0-4P expansion ports. This low power E-Ink controller is a practical base for a smart home panel, IoT terminal, electronic label, e-book reader, and industrial control panel.

Compared with a small E-Ink module, M5Paper v1.1 gives an IoT terminal more space for status cards, sensor charts, menus, and touch controls. Compared with an LCD panel, the ESP32 E-Ink touchscreen can remain readable between updates with very low power draw, making M5-K049-B suitable for battery-powered and always-readable display projects.

Features

  • Large ESP32 E-Ink touchscreen: 4.7-inch 540 x 960 E-Ink display, 16-level grayscale, GT911 capacitive touch, two-point touch, and gesture operation.
  • ESP32 performance: ESP32-D0WDQ6-V3 dual-core processor, 240MHz main frequency, 16MB Flash, 8MB PSRAM, and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.
  • Low power E-Ink controller: 1150mAh battery and BM8563 RTC support sleep/wake workflows for low-refresh dashboards and retained information screens.
  • Onboard sensing and storage: SHT30 temperature and humidity sensor, FM24C02 EEPROM, and TF-card slot support data logging and local configuration.
  • Expansion ready: three HY2.0-4P ports let the M5Stack Paper v1.1 connect to M5Stack sensors and modules for smart home panel or IoT terminal projects.
  • Flexible screen version: M5Paper v1.1 uses a flexible E-Ink screen panel while keeping the same functional specifications as the original hard-panel model.
  • Easy mounting: magnetic back and slim enclosure support desk, wall, room label, shelf label, and cabinet display use cases.

Usage note: do not expose the E-Ink screen to ultraviolet light for extended periods. The M5Stack Paper v1.1 power management differs from CORE and StickC devices: long-press the rotary switch/PWR button for 2 seconds to power on, and use the software API or rear reset button to power off. When powered by USB, the device cannot be shut down.

The refresh mode selection helps tune the low power E-Ink controller for image quality, text readability, or faster response. Use quality mode for image precision, text mode for reading-heavy UI, and faster modes when the ESP32 E-Ink touchscreen needs quick touch feedback.

For deployment planning, treat M5-K049-B as a touch-enabled IoT terminal during operation and as an electronic label when idle. The same M5Paper v1.1 hardware can show room status, sensor values, control menus, or fixed instructions without continuous LCD power draw.
