This 1/0 AWG HMWPE Cathodic Protection Cable is a specialized single-conductor wire engineered for use in impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems. Designed to withstand the unique electrochemical stresses of buried and submerged environments, it provides a rugged, high-conductivity link between rectifiers and anodes.
Standard insulation types often fail in cathodic protection environments due to the production of corrosive gases and varying soil pH. High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (HMWPE) is specifically formulated to provide maximum mechanical toughness and chemical stability, serving as a critical barrier for the copper conductor.
Chemical Barrier: The HMWPE jacket is highly resistant to chlorine, hydrogen, and other corrosive gases commonly generated at the anode bed.
Mechanical Durability: Known for its high "cut-through" and abrasion resistance, this cable is designed to survive the rigors of direct burial and the pressures of backfilling.
Direct Burial & Submerged Rating: Rated for direct burial in harsh soils and for use in fresh, brackish, or salt water.
Optimized Conductivity: Constructed with soft-drawn, stranded bare copper to ensure efficient current distribution and minimal voltage drop.
Conductor Size: 1/0 AWG
Conductor Material: Stranded Bare Copper
Insulation Material: High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (HMWPE)
Voltage Rating: 600V
Temperature Rating: 75C (167F)
Amp Rating: 150 Amps (@ 75C)
Standard Color: Black (UV Resistant)
Approvals: ASTM D-1248, ICEA S-95-658
Transmission Pipelines: Essential for both positive and negative leads in pipeline corrosion control systems.
Storage Tank Protection: Used to connect rectifiers to anode arrays for large-scale underground and above-ground storage tanks.
Marine Infrastructure: Protects pier pilings, offshore platforms, and bulkheads from saltwater corrosion.
Ground Bed Feeds: Preferred for wiring in surface-ground-bed and deep-well anode installations.
Technical Note: To prevent premature system failure, the HMWPE jacket must remain intact. Any breach in the insulation allows the copper conductor to become an accidental anode, leading to rapid corrosion and circuit failure. For high-chlorine or hydrocarbon environments, a dual-insulated construction (HALAR/HMWPE) should be considered.
