This 4/0 AWG HMWPE Cathodic Protection Cable is a heavy-duty, single-conductor wire specifically designed for use in impressed current cathodic protection systems. It is engineered to perform in the most demanding environments, including direct burial in corrosive soils or submersion in fresh, brackish, or salt water.
In cathodic protection, the cable is the lifeline of the system. Standard insulation often fails when exposed to the electrolytic activity and corrosive gases (like chlorine) generated at anode sites. The High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (HMWPE) used in this cable is a specialized "thermoset-like" material that offers superior resistance to environmental stress cracking and chemical degradation.
Superior Shielding: The HMWPE jacket provides an outstanding barrier against moisture and the aggressive chemicals found in industrial ground beds.
Mechanical Integrity: Known for its high "cut-through" resistance, this cable stands up to the mechanical rigors of installation and backfilling without requiring conduit.
Optimized Conductivity: Manufactured with soft-drawn, stranded bare copper to ensure efficient current distribution over long distances.
UV and Weather Resistant: While primarily used for burial, the black jacket is stabilized for resistance to ultraviolet light.
Conductor Size: 4/0 AWG
Conductor Material: Stranded Bare Copper
Insulation Material: High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (HMWPE)
Voltage Rating: 600V
Temperature Rating: 75C (167F)
Amp Rating: 230 Amps (@ 75C)
Standard Color: Black
Approvals: ASTM D-1248, ICEA S-95-658
Pipeline Feeders: Used for both positive and negative leads in pipeline corrosion control systems.
Storage Tanks: Ideal for connecting rectifiers to anode arrays for large underground or above-ground tank bottoms.
Marine Structures: Used to protect pier pilings, offshore platforms, and bulkheads from saltwater corrosion.
Deep Well Anodes: Designed to withstand the submerged conditions of deep-well ground bed installations.
Technical Note: To prevent premature system failure, it is critical to ensure the jacket is not damaged during installation. Any breach in the insulation allows the copper conductor to become an accidental anode, leading to rapid wire corrosion. For high-chlorine or hydrocarbon environments, consider upgrading to a dual-insulated HALAR/HMWPE construction.
